Bardiglietto: the complete guide

Bardiglietto is a light grey marble from the Apuan Alps, a softer relative of the famous Bardiglio. It is chosen for its understated elegance and the tradition of Tuscan marbles.

History and origin

The grey marbles of the Apuan Alps, known as bardigli, have been quarried for centuries in the Carrara district alongside the white marbles. Bardiglietto is the variety with the lightest tones and less contrasting veins. It is used in floors, cladding and furnishings, in both classic and contemporary settings. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is light grey, with darker grey veins, thin or cloudy, often running parallel. The tone and density of the veining vary between slabs. Polishing gives depth to the grey, while honing creates a very current matt, velvety effect.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for floors, cladding, stairs, bathroom vanity tops and washbasins. In the kitchen it can be used knowingly, accepting the patina that acids leave over time. Outdoors it is used mainly for thresholds and windowsills in mild climates.

Care and maintenance

Clean with neutral detergents specific to marble and avoid limescale removers and acidic products. A stain-proofing treatment reduces the absorption of oils and coloured liquids. Any dulling can be restored with professional honing.

FAQ

What is the difference between Bardiglio and Bardiglietto?

Bardiglietto has a lighter background and lighter veins; Bardiglio is generally darker and more uniform.

Can it be used as a kitchen worktop?

Yes, but like any calcitic marble it is sensitive to acids: lemon and vinegar can dull it, especially if polished.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

Yes, for floors, cladding and vanity tops, with neutral detergents and no aggressive limescale removers.
