Breccia Sarda: complete guide
Breccia Sarda is a brecciated marble in variegated colours, made up of fragments of different tones joined by a natural matrix. It is chosen to give personality to walls, furnishings and decorative surfaces.
History and origin
As the name suggests, it is a breccia from Sardinia, an expression of the island's variety of ornamental stones. Coloured breccias have been used for centuries for cladding and decoration, thanks to their ever-changing pattern. Availability depends on the batches and must be checked at the time of enquiry. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The surface is composed of clasts of different shapes and sizes, in a range of colours that can span warm tones, greys and darker shades, joined by a matrix of a different tone. Variability between slabs is very high, so much so that each piece has a unique pattern. Polishing brightens the colours; matt finishes give a more rustic look.

| Water absorption | low to medium, variable in the matrix |

Recommended uses
Recommended for wall cladding, bathroom tops, tables, shelves and interior floors with a honed finish. Not suitable for intensively used kitchen worktops or, in general, for exposed exteriors.
Care and maintenance
Use neutral detergents and dry surfaces after cleaning. A protective impregnating sealer, renewed periodically, limits absorption in the matrix; any fillings can be restored in the workshop.

- wrought iron and burnished metals
- olive wood or oak
- handcrafted ceramics and natural fabrics
FAQ
Are the colours always the same?
No: being a breccia, the colours and size of the fragments vary from block to block. For this reason we recommend choosing the slabs from up-to-date photos before ordering.
Can it be used as flooring?
Yes, in residential interiors, with a honed finish and good protection. The lively pattern hides dust and small signs of wear well.
Which finish do you recommend?
Polished for furnishings and cladding, where you want the colour to stand out; honed for floors and countertops, where it is more practical to maintain.
