History and origin
The name refers to the state of Bahia, in north-eastern Brazil, a region that exports several ornamental granites. Marrom Bahia is used mainly for kitchen worktops, floors and cladding. Brown granites are appreciated because they hide dust and small signs of use well. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is medium-dark brown with black and brown crystals and some golden glints. The grain is medium and the pattern relatively uniform, with variations in tone between lots. Polishing gives depth and reflections; matt finishes make it more uniform and warm.

Recommended uses
It is ideal for kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom vanity tops, floors and stairs. It is also used outdoors for thresholds and window sills. In poorly lit rooms it is best paired with light surfaces so as not to make the space feel heavy.
Care and maintenance
Diluted neutral detergent and drying with a soft cloth. The dark colour makes stains hard to see, but oil and grease should still be removed promptly. A periodic protector is useful on honed surfaces.
Pairings
- matt beige or taupe doors
- natural oak
- bronze or antiqued brass taps
