History and origin

It is an Indian stone of gneissic type, with bands of dark minerals alternating with the light background. In recent years it has been very successful as a more robust alternative to veined white marbles for kitchen worktops. The amount of grey in the pattern varies considerably from block to block. Look and veining

The background is white or very light grey, crossed by wavy grey and black bands and a few garnet specks. Some slabs are almost white, others heavily veined, so selection is essential. Polishing gives contrast and depth; honing creates a more matt, contemporary effect.

Recommended uses

Excellent for kitchen worktops, islands and bathroom tops, where it resists acids and scratches better than marble. It can also be used for cladding, floors and outdoor thresholds.

Care and maintenance

Apply a stain-repellent impregnating sealer and renew it every year or two, especially in the kitchen. Clean with a neutral detergent; no marble-specific products are needed.
