Zhuyeqing Granite (Bamboo Green): the complete guide

Zhuyeqing Granite, also known as Bamboo Green, is a Chinese hard stone with a mottled dark green background. It is chosen to combine an unusual colour with the durability typical of granites.

History and origin

The Chinese name Zhuyeqing literally means bamboo-leaf green, hence the trade name Bamboo Green. China is among the largest producers and exporters of natural stone, with a vast range of granites offered for construction and interiors. Zhuyeqing is one of the green varieties of this production. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The dark green background is dotted with lighter or darker crystals and spots, with a fairly regular mottled effect. Differences in tone between slabs are generally moderate, but it is always advisable to check the lot. Polishing intensifies the green, while flaming and brushing lighten it and make it more matt.

FAQ

What does Zhuyeqing mean?

In Chinese it means bamboo-leaf green, which is why the material is also sold as Bamboo Green. The name recalls the mottled green tone of the stone.

Is it suitable for a kitchen worktop?

Yes, like other granites it resists heat, scratches and food acids. The polished finish is the easiest to clean.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, with flamed or bush-hammered finishes for floors and stairs. The colour lightens slightly with these treatments, so it is worth assessing a sample.
