Costa Smeralda Granite: the complete guide
Costa Smeralda Granite is a stone with a light background speckled with dark crystals, designed for those looking for a bright yet durable material. It is part of the selection of exclusive materials offered by Marmi di Carrara.
History and origin
The trade name recalls the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, but does not necessarily indicate where it is quarried. In Marmi di Carrara's historic catalogue it appears among the exclusive materials, available in blocks, solid pieces, slabs and tiles. It is offered for kitchens, floors, stairs and special fabrication such as waterjet cutting and inlays. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is light, with a widespread granulation of dark minerals and grey areas that add movement without creating marked veining. As with all granites, the intensity of the speckling can change from slab to slab. Polished, it is brilliant and contrasting; honed, satin-finished or brushed, it becomes softer and more uniform.

Recommended uses
The old catalogue offers it for floors, cladding, kitchens, washbasins, bathtubs, tables, stairs and fireplaces, as well as for inlays and waterjet cutting. It is a good choice for bright kitchen worktops and bathrooms; outdoors, flamed or bush-hammered finishes are preferred. It is available in slabs from 1 to 20 cm thick and in calibrated tiles.
Care and maintenance
Clean with lukewarm water and neutral soap, drying polished surfaces to avoid smears. On kitchen worktops apply a stain-proofing protector, especially if the finish is honed or brushed. Avoid abrasive products or those based on hydrofluoric acid.
Pairings
- matt white cabinet doors and ash wood
- steel or matt black taps
- aqua green or pearl grey ceramic wall tiles
