Arabescato Collettino: complete guide

Arabescato Collettino is a white Apuan marble with grey veining in a lively pattern, typical of the arabescato family. It is chosen for bright, characterful interiors with a natural, striking effect.

History and origin

It belongs to the arabescato group of the Carrara district in Tuscany, marbles characterised by veins forming irregular patterns resembling arabesques. Arabescati have always been among the most sought-after Apuan marbles for bathrooms, floors and furnishing surfaces. The name Collettino identifies a specific commercial selection. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is white or slightly greyish white, crossed by grey veins of varying intensity that create a pattern of patches and interlacing. Each slab has a different pattern, and for continuous surfaces book-matched cuts are considered. Polishing enhances the contrast between white and grey, while honing makes it softer and matt.

Recommended uses

It is ideal for floors, bathroom cladding, walls, stairs, vanity tops and furnishings. As a kitchen worktop it is much admired aesthetically, but marks from acids and a certain patina over time must be accepted. Outdoors the polished version is not recommended.

Care and maintenance

Apply a stain-proofing protector for light-coloured marbles and renew it periodically. Clean with neutral detergents, avoiding limescale removers and acidic products. In the kitchen use chopping boards and coasters and wipe up stains immediately.

Pairings

  • brushed brass or satin gold
  • natural oak or walnut
  • warm grey walls and matt black ceramics

FAQ

What is the difference between Arabescato and Calacatta?

Arabescato has denser grey veining and irregular patterns on a white-grey background, while Calacatta has a whiter background and bolder veins, often with golden tones.

Is it suitable for a kitchen worktop?

Aesthetically yes, but being calcitic it is sensitive to acids: with a protector and a little care you get a beautiful surface that develops a patina over time.

Can it be book-matched?

Yes, with consecutive slabs from the same block you can create very striking mirrored compositions on walls and in bathrooms.

How do I order it?

Write to us with sizes, thickness and finish: we will send you a quote and photos of the slabs, including consecutive ones for book-matching.
