Arabescato Vagli: complete guide
Arabescato Vagli is a white marble with broad grey veins, often with a brecciated appearance, from the Vagli area in the Garfagnana. It is chosen for high-impact surfaces, where the pattern of the stone takes centre stage.
History and origin
Vagli, a municipality in the Garfagnana on the Lucca side of the Apuan Alps, is an area known for quarrying white and veined marbles. Arabescato Vagli stands out for its wide, marked veins enclosing areas of white, a pattern much in demand for bathrooms and striking cladding. Characteristics may vary between the different quarry beds. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is a bright white, interrupted by broad grey veins, graphite-coloured in places, that branch out in several directions. The effect resembles a breccia and varies greatly between slabs, making it well suited to book-matched installation on walls and tops. A polished finish enhances the contrast; a honed one gives a softer, more contemporary look.

- sage green or anthracite grey walls
FAQ
Can it be book-matched?
Yes, it is one of the most suitable marbles for this: consecutive slabs from the same block produce highly striking mirrored patterns. It must be requested at quotation stage, as a sequence of numbered slabs is required.
Is it suitable for a kitchen island?
It can be, if you accept that the marble will be marked by acids and use. Many choose it precisely for the patina that develops over time; those who want an unalterable surface should opt for granite or quartzite.
What is the difference from Calacatta Vagli?
They come from the same area but have different patterns: Calacatta has more isolated veins and a more uniform background, while Arabescato has denser, interwoven veins with a brecciated effect.
