Elazig Cherry: complete guide

History and origin

It comes from the province of Elazığ in eastern Anatolia, an area known for producing red marbles. It is widely available on the international market in slabs and tiles, often as an alternative to rarer European reds. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is cherry red, sometimes tending towards brown, with a network of white or pinkish veins of varying thickness. The intensity of the colour and the amount of veining can change considerably between different blocks. Polishing gives a deep, glossy red, while honing makes it darker and matt.

Recommended uses

Suitable for interior floors, cladding, bathroom tops, fireplaces, skirting boards and decorative inserts. In large floors it is often combined with light marbles. Not recommended outdoors or in the kitchen, where acids could dull the colour.

Care and maintenance

Use only neutral detergents: on dark marbles acid etching is very visible. A protective impregnating sealer and a wax for polished marble maintain the shine. Dullness can be remedied with professional polishing.
