Cremo Tirreno: complete guide
Cremo Tirreno is an Apuan marble with a cream-white background and delicate, soft veins. It is valued for its warm brightness and discreet pattern, easy to fit into different settings.
History and origin
It is one of the marble varieties of the Apuan district, with a trade name that evokes its cream colour and the Tyrrhenian Sea on which the Tuscan coast looks out. Compared with cooler whites it offers a soft tone, suited to residential and commercial interiors. Characteristics may vary between quarrying batches. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is ivory white with fine light grey and beige veins, often soft and low in contrast. The appearance is fairly uniform, although differences in tone and vein density can be seen between slabs. A polished finish makes it bright and silky; a honed or brushed one accentuates its warmth.

Recommended uses
It lends itself to interior floors, stairs, bathrooms, cladding, tops and furnishings, including large surfaces thanks to its regular pattern. Not recommended outdoors or for kitchen worktops, unless you accept the patina of time.
Care and maintenance
Use neutral detergents and water, drying the surfaces. The light background should be protected with a stain-repellent impregnating sealer; oil or coffee stains should be treated as soon as possible with absorbent poultices.
Pairings
- bleached oak and natural tones
- satin brass
- travertine for tone-on-tone combinations
FAQ
Is it suitable for large floors?
Yes, its delicate and fairly uniform pattern makes it suitable for large surfaces, including in tile format. A honed finish is the most practical for everyday use.
What is the difference from Calacatta Crema?
Calacatta Crema has broader, more marked veins, while Cremo Tirreno has a more discreet, soft pattern. The former is more striking, the latter more versatile for large surfaces.
Can it be used in the bathroom?
Yes, for floors, walls, tops and washbasins. Avoid acidic limescale removers and prefer neutral detergents, drying the surfaces after use.
