Austral Black Granite: complete guide

History and origin

Australia produces a number of black stones commercially classed as granites, used both on the domestic market and for export. Austral Black is one of them and is used for cladding, paving, monuments and furnishings. Geologically, black stones of this type generally belong to the basic rocks. Look and veining

The background is black with a fine, regular grain and minimal variation between slabs. Close up, slight grey glints can be seen. Polishing gives a deep black, while honing, flaming and sandblasting produce anthracite grey surfaces that are more practical for everyday use.

Recommended uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, bathrooms, floors, stairs, façades and street furniture. It is also a good stone for monuments and engravings. In outdoor paving exposed to the sun, the dark colour retains heat, which should be taken into account at the design stage.

Care and maintenance

Neutral detergent and a soft cloth; avoid greasy soaps and waxes that leave marks on black. Dry off hard water on polished surfaces.
