Preto Aracruz Granite: complete guide

Preto Aracruz granite is a black Brazilian granite with a fine, compact grain. It is chosen for dark, elegant and highly resistant surfaces.

History and origin

The name recalls Aracruz, a municipality in the state of Espírito Santo, one of Brazil's main regions for quarrying and processing stone. Like many commercial black granites, geologically it may be a basic rock of the gabbroid type. It is used for kitchens, bathrooms, floors and street furniture. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is black or anthracite grey, with a fine grain and grey or light speckles that are more or less visible. The slabs are generally fairly uniform, with small differences in tone. Polished, it takes on a deep, mirror-like black; honed or brushed, it becomes a matt dark grey.

Recommended uses

Excellent for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, stairs, façade cladding and furnishings. Resistant to frost, heat and wear. On black polished surfaces, fingerprints and limescale are more visible.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and a neutral detergent, drying to avoid limescale marks. Frequent treatments are not needed given its low porosity; a protector can reduce marks. Avoid waxes that leave a film.

Pairings

  • Gloss white doors or light wood
  • Stainless steel and brass details
  • White marble or light concrete floors

FAQ

Is it a true granite?

Commercially yes; geologically many black granites are basic rocks such as gabbros or diorites, with similar or superior performance.

Do fingerprints show on the worktop?

On polished black, somewhat more so; honed or brushed finishes hide them better.

Does it withstand outdoor use?

Yes, it is highly resistant to frost and weathering; outdoors the polish tends to dull over time.
