Baltic Brown Granite: the complete guide

History and origin

It comes from Finland and is an example of rapakivi granite, a Finnish term describing the typical structure of feldspar ovoids surrounded by a rim of a different colour. For decades it has been exported worldwide for worktops, floors and façades. This wide distribution has made it one of the best-known granites. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The brown background is studded with chocolate and copper-coloured feldspar ovoids, surrounded by dark green or black rings, with black specks between the crystals. The pattern is fairly consistent between slabs, with slight variations in tone. Polished, it becomes warm and deep; flamed or brushed, it lightens and takes on a more rustic character.

Recommended uses

Excellent for kitchen worktops, bathrooms, floors, stairs, windowsills and façade cladding. Also suitable for public and commercial spaces subject to heavy traffic.

Care and maintenance

Simple maintenance: water, a neutral detergent and, if necessary, a stain-proofing protector. On polished surfaces avoid wax-based products, which leave smears.
