Bege Bahia: complete guide

Bege Bahia is a light beige Brazilian limestone sold as marble. It is chosen for its warm, neutral tone and its natural, slightly mottled appearance.

History and origin

It comes from the state of Bahia in Brazil and has been widespread on the international market for years as a versatile beige. Geologically it is a limestone, often with small natural cavities. For this reason the slabs are normally filled or resin-treated during processing. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is light beige, with patches, clouding and small darker or lighter inclusions. It has no true veins but a diffuse pattern that varies from slab to slab. Polishing makes the colour warmer; honing or brushing makes it look more rustic.

FAQ

Is it a marble or a limestone?

It is a limestone: in the trade it is called marble because it is polished and worked in the same way.

Why do the slabs have filling?

Small natural cavities are closed with resin or filler to obtain a continuous, more resistant surface.

Can I use it outdoors?

We do not recommend it in climates with frost: for exteriors a travertine, a granite or a purpose-suited stone is better.

How do I order it?
