Botticino Sicilia: the complete guide

Botticino Sicilia is an ivory-beige Sicilian marble, warm and delicate in appearance. The name recalls the better-known Botticino from Brescia, which it resembles in tone.

History and origin

Sicily has a long tradition of quarrying compact, polishable limestones, commercially called marbles, used in construction and furnishings. Botticino Sicilia is one of these ivory-toned stones, offered as an alternative to the classic Italian beiges. It is used in floors, cladding and bathrooms. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is ivory beige, with possible thin veins, small spots and fossil traces typical of limestones. The tone can vary from light cream to a warmer beige between different slabs. Polished, it takes on a bright, classic look; honed or brushed, it becomes softer and more natural.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for floors, cladding, stairs, bathroom vanity tops and thresholds. In the kitchen it is not recommended as a heavily used worktop because of its sensitivity to acids. Outdoors it can be used for windowsills and thresholds in mild climates.

Care and maintenance

Neutral detergents specific to marble, never limescale removers or acidic products. A stain-proofing product protects the most exposed surfaces. Dullness and surface scratches can be restored with professional honing and polishing.

Pairings

FAQ
