Grigio Sardo Granite: complete guide

Grigio Sardo is an Italian granite quarried in Sardinia, light grey with a medium to coarse grain. It is a robust, versatile stone, widely used both in construction and in kitchens.

History and origin

Sardinia, in particular the north-eastern part of the island, is the main granite-producing area in Italy. Grigio Sardo has been used for decades for urban paving, cladding, stairs and worktops, in Italy and abroad. It is one of the best-known Italian granites. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is light grey, with white feldspar crystals, grey quartz and well-distributed black biotite spots. The pattern is regular but, because of the medium to coarse grain, each slab shows small differences. Polished, it looks brilliant and contrasted; flamed, it becomes an even light grey that is very well suited to outdoor use.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, stairs, façades, kerbs and public paving. Its domestic availability makes even large supplies easier. For spaces where a dark or very uniform background is wanted, other granites are worth considering.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and a neutral detergent. A water- and oil-repellent treatment is recommended on worktops. Outdoors, periodic washing keeps the colour light.
