Lapidus Granite: the complete guide
Lapidus Granite is a Brazilian stone with a light background enlivened by dark undulations and small reddish garnets. It is chosen to combine a lively, natural look with the durability typical of commercial granites.
History and origin
It comes from Brazil, one of the leading exporters of granites with lively patterns. Geologically it belongs to the gneissic metamorphic rocks, which the market classifies as granites. Look and veining
The background ranges from white-grey to cream, crossed by dark grey or brownish bands and undulations. The garnets, visible as burgundy red dots, are distributed irregularly and make every slab different from the others. Polishing intensifies contrast and depth, while honed and brushed finishes give a softer, matt effect.

Recommended uses
It is very well suited to kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom vanity tops and cladding where a striking material is wanted. It is also used for floors, stairs and exteriors; for large surfaces it is advisable to select the slabs individually, given the strong variability of the pattern.
Care and maintenance
Daily cleaning with water and a neutral detergent. A stain-proofing impregnating sealer applied after installation, and renewed every one or two years, protects against oil stains in the lighter areas.

FAQ
Is Lapidus a true granite?
Commercially yes; geologically it is a gneiss, that is a banded metamorphic rock. Its performance in use is nonetheless comparable to that of granites: good hardness and acid resistance.
Is it good for a kitchen worktop?
Yes, it resists moderate heat, scratches and food acids. An impregnating treatment is advisable to reduce grease absorption in the lighter areas.
Are all the slabs the same?
No: the quantity of garnets and the direction of the veining change from block to block. For projects with several slabs it is useful to see photos of the actual pieces before buying.
