Guazubirá Granite: complete guide

Guazubirá is a red granite from Uruguay, known for its intense, saturated colour. It is chosen when a stone with strong colour impact is wanted that is hard-wearing and suitable for outdoor use.

History and origin

Uruguay has been exporting red and black granites for decades, and Guazubirá is among the country's best-known reds. It has been used in cladding, paving and memorial work, both in South America and on international markets. Its bold tint makes it recognisable on façades and monuments. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is bright red, formed by large feldspars, with dark quartz and black crystals distributed irregularly. Slabs may range from lighter red to dark red. Polishing brings out the saturation to the full, while flaming shifts the colour towards a more matt brick red.

Recommended uses

Very well suited to façades, plinths, monuments, headstones and prestige paving. Indoors it can be used for worktops, fireplace cladding or decorative details. On large surfaces its vivid colour should be balanced with neutral materials.

Care and maintenance

Cleaning with neutral detergents is enough; the stone is unaffected by acids and the weather. To keep outdoor polish vivid, a specific granite protector can be applied periodically.

Pairings

  • absolute black granite for inlays and contrasts
  • polished steel and glass
  • flamed light grey stones

FAQ

Is the red colour uniform?

No, it is a natural granite and the intensity of the red varies between blocks; for large projects it is best to view the slabs and order from a single batch.

Is it suitable for a monument?

Yes, it is a classic choice for memorial work: polished, it retains its colour and shine for a long time, and engravings stand out well.

Can it be used for a kitchen worktop?

Technically yes, it is hard-wearing and has low porosity; aesthetically it is a bold choice, suited to kitchens with a strong character.
