Rosso Biritiba Granite: complete guide

Rosso Biritiba, also known as Vermelho Biritiba, is a Brazilian red granite with a bold colour. It is chosen for characterful surfaces that must last over time, including outdoors.

History and origin

The name refers to the Biritiba Mirim area in the state of São Paulo, where red granites are quarried. Brazilian red granites have been widely used for façades, urban paving, monuments and tops. Rosso Biritiba is appreciated for its warm shade and good resistance. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is red, due to the large feldspar crystals, with greyish quartz and black minerals distributed between the grains. The grain is medium-coarse and the pattern fairly uniform, with variations in the intensity of the red between blocks. Polished, the colour becomes more saturated; flamed, it lightens towards pink-orange.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for ventilated façades, outdoor paving, stairs, street furniture, headstones and kitchen worktops. Indoors it works well on limited areas or in contrast with neutral materials. In small, very light rooms it can be dominant over large surfaces.

Care and maintenance

Outdoors, periodic washing with water and a neutral detergent is sufficient. On polished interior finishes use non-abrasive products. A water repellent limits the absorption of smog and dirt on flamed surfaces.

Pairings

  • Nero Assoluto granite for borders and decorative bands
  • Corten steel and black-painted iron
  • white and sand-coloured plaster

FAQ

Are Rosso Biritiba and Vermelho Biritiba the same granite?

Yes, Vermelho is the Portuguese word for red: it is the same material under its Italian or original name.

Is it suitable for exteriors?

Yes, it resists frost and wear well: it is widely used for paving, steps and exterior cladding with a flamed finish.

Does the colour fade in the sun?

Red granite is generally stable in light; any differences in appearance depend more on the finish and dirt than on exposure.
