History and origin
Red granites have been used for centuries in monumental architecture for their vivid colour and great durability. Barents Red is an imported material with a trade name inspired by Northern Europe. Availability must be checked for each project. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is red, due to the feldspars, with darker quartz crystals and scattered black minerals. The grain can be medium or coarse and the shade varies between brick red and orange-red. Polishing intensifies the red; flaming lightens it and makes it more matt.

Recommended uses
Excellent for ventilated façades, outdoor paving, steps, kerbs and memorials. Indoors it is used for floors, kitchen worktops and cladding with character. It should be used sparingly in small rooms because of its very strong colour.
Care and maintenance
Maintenance with neutral detergents. Outdoors a water repellent reduces dirt on textured finishes. It needs no special treatment.

Is it suitable for a façade?
Yes, red granites are traditionally used for façades and exterior cladding thanks to their resistance to weathering.
Does the colour fade in the sun?
No, the colour comes from the rock's minerals and is stable; textured finishes do, however, look lighter than polished ones.
