Himalayan Blue Granite: complete guide

Himalayan Blue is a commercial granite in blue-grey tones, crossed by light, wavy veins. It is chosen to create fresh, lively surfaces without giving up the hardness of a siliceous stone.

History and origin

It is an Indian material with a gneissic structure, with aligned bands of minerals that create its typical wavy pattern. It spread on the international market as an alternative to rarer and more expensive blue stones. The actual colour depends on the block: some batches are greyer, others cooler and bluer. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is grey with blue highlights, crossed by white, grey and sometimes slightly pinkish bands. The pattern is marked and changes from slab to slab, so for large worktops sequential slabs are used. Polishing intensifies the blue, while honing makes it softer and more powdery.

Recommended uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom tops, cladding and floors indoors, as well as thresholds and window sills outdoors. For large outdoor floors an anti-slip finish is preferable.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent and water; avoid abrasive products, which can dull the polish. A periodic impregnating sealer helps prevent oil marks on worktops.

FAQ

Is Himalayan Blue really blue?

It is mainly grey with blue highlights, more evident when polished and in natural light. It is advisable to look at photos of the actual slabs, because the intensity varies.

Can it be used in the bathroom?

Yes, it has low absorption and resists humidity and toiletries; it is suitable for vanity tops, cladding and bespoke shower trays with a non-slip finish.

Which finish for the kitchen?

Polished is the most practical to clean and enhances the colour; brushed gives a more textured effect but holds dirt a little more.

How do I order it?

Send us the dimensions and desired finishes: we will prepare a quote with photos of the slabs, so you can choose the pattern you prefer.
