History and origin
The name recalls Lapland (Lappi), the northern region of Finland. The country has a long tradition of quarrying granites for construction and street furniture, thanks to its ancient, compact rocks. Lappia Blue is a less widespread variety than the classic Nordic reds and greys and is offered for projects seeking a cool shade. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is grey with bluish highlights, due to the combination of dark and light minerals in the grain. The pattern is generally homogeneous, with limited variation in tone between slabs from the same block. Polishing enhances the blue component, while flamed and bush-hammered finishes lighten the surface and make it greyer.

FAQ
How does it differ from South American blue granites?
Sodalite-based South American blue granites have much more intense colours and high prices; Lappia Blue has a soft, greyish blue, better suited to large surfaces and an understated taste.
Can it be used outdoors in cold areas?
Yes: like Nordic granites it has low absorption and good frost resistance. For outdoor floors a slip-resistant finish such as flamed or bush-hammered is advisable.
What finishes are available?
Polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered and brushed, depending on the processing required. The tone changes considerably: bluer when polished, lighter with textured finishes.
