Labrador Antico: complete guide

Labrador Antico is a dark stone with a bluish-black background and crystals that reveal iridescent flashes as the light changes. It is chosen to combine the elegance of a black with the shimmering depth typical of labradorite rocks.

History and origin

The trade name Labrador covers several dark stones containing feldspars that produce iridescent flashes, long known in construction and furnishings. Labrador Antico is an imported material, commercially classed as granite. It is offered above all with finishes that bring out its character, such as polished and antiqued. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is black with blue tinges, studded with crystals that flash sky blue and silver-grey depending on the viewing angle. The intensity of the flashes varies between slabs. Polished, it shows the iridescence to the full; antiqued or brushed, it takes on a more textured, matt look with more subtle flashes.

FAQ

How does it differ from Labradorite Blue Australe?

Labrador Antico has a darker, almost black background with diffuse flashes; Blue Australe has larger crystals and a more intense blue, and is generally more expensive.

What does an antiqued finish mean?

It is a treatment that makes the surface slightly undulating and satin-like, with a lived-in effect that is less reflective than polished.

Is it suitable for floors?

Yes, it has the wear resistance of a granite; in wet areas non-polished finishes are preferable.

How do I order it?

Write to us stating the use, dimensions and finish: we will send you a quotation and photos of the slabs, useful for assessing the flashes.
