Ylä-Savo Black Granite: complete guide

History and origin

The name refers to the region of Upper Savonia, in eastern Finland. Like many Nordic blacks, it is a dark igneous rock included in the commercial category of granites. These stones are widespread in Europe for memorial work, building and interior furnishing. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background ranges from black to anthracite, with a fine or medium grain and occasional light specks. The pattern is regular, but the shade may vary slightly between blocks. Polishing gives a mirror effect; flaming turns the black into a rough dark grey.

Recommended uses

Recommended for kitchen worktops, washbasins, cladding, steps and monuments. Outdoors it works for thresholds, window sills and vertical cladding. On floors highly exposed to the sun, the black heats up considerably.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a damp cloth and neutral detergent, drying areas exposed to hard water. A stain-proofing product made for dark granites prevents marks without altering the colour.
