History and origin
It takes its name from the Meissen area, in Saxony, along the Elbe, where granitic and syenitic rocks have been used as building stone for centuries. These materials appear in buildings, bridges, paving and monuments in eastern Germany. Today they are also used for restoration and new projects. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background alternates reddish and grey tones, with pinkish feldspar crystals, quartz and dark minerals. The grain is medium to coarse and slabs may vary in the ratio of red to grey. Polished, it brings out the colour; flamed or bush-hammered, it becomes softer and more rustic.
