Tandur Blue: complete guide
Tandur Blue is a compact Indian limestone with a grey-blue tone, used mainly for floors and outdoor paving. It is chosen for its cool, understated colour and good resistance to foot traffic.
History and origin
It is quarried in the Tandur area, in Telangana, the same area of origin as Tandur Yellow. In India it is a traditional material for floors in civic buildings, thanks to its compactness and the ease with which it splits into slabs. It is exported natural cleft, calibrated, honed or brushed. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request, as slabs and cut formats.
Look and veining
The background is grey-blue, sometimes with slight green or brown nuances and golden oxidation on cleft surfaces. The appearance is generally more uniform than the yellow version, but variations between slabs are still present. Honed, it takes on a deeper grey-blue; brushed or cleft, it looks lighter and more rustic.

FAQ
Does Tandur Blue resemble Belgian bluestone?
It has a similar grey-blue tone and is sometimes used as an alternative, but it has a more rustic appearance and a different structure; it is best to compare samples.
Can it be used around a pool?
Yes, with non-polished finishes; a water repellent and periodic cleaning to remove chlorine and salt residues are recommended.
Does it stay blue outdoors?
With exposure the colour may lighten slightly or develop slight oxidation: this is natural ageing of the stone.
