Jura Grey-Blue: complete guide

Jura Grey-Blue is the cool variety of Bavarian Jurassic limestone, in grey-blue tones with fossils. It is chosen for understated, contemporary interiors with a natural but discreet texture.

History and origin

It is quarried in Bavaria, in the same Franconian Jura deposits that produce Jura Beige; the different colouring depends on the layers and the conditions under which the rock formed. Here too, fossils of marine organisms are common. It is valued in architecture for floors and cladding with a minimalist feel. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is grey with blue highlights, with fossils and lighter clouding. Slabs may show transition areas towards beige, a characteristic of this deposit. Honing makes the tone even and matt, while brushing brings out the texture.

FAQ

Is the colour uniform?

Not entirely: the grey-blue may alternate with beige nuances. Selecting and mixing the slabs during laying helps achieve an even effect.

Is it suitable for a floor with underfloor heating?

Yes, like most compact stones it conducts heat well; it should be laid according to the guidelines for radiant systems.

What is the most practical finish?

Honed or brushed: matt, easy to clean and less likely to show scratches than polished.
