Tropic Brown Granite: the complete guide
Tropic Brown Granite is a dark stone with a medium-coarse grain, with brown and black crystals that create a mottled effect. It is valued for its durability and its warm colour, which hides stains and signs of use well.
History and origin
It is an imported granite that has long been on the international market, also known as Tropical Brown. It was widely used for kitchen worktops and windowsills, especially where a dark material less severe than black was wanted. Today it is enjoying renewed interest in projects that revive warm, earthy palettes. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is dark brown, with rounded brown feldspar crystals alongside grey quartz and black minerals. The texture is fairly uniform and differences between slabs mainly concern the size and density of the crystals. Polished, it becomes deep, almost chocolate-coloured; honed or brushed, it takes on a more matt, grey-brown tone.

Recommended uses
Excellent for kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom tops and floors in shops or public spaces. It is also suitable for thresholds, windowsills and outdoor stairs. In small, poorly lit rooms it can feel heavy if used on large vertical surfaces.
Care and maintenance
The dark polished colour shows limescale marks and fingerprints: it is best to dry after cleaning with a microfibre cloth. Use neutral detergents and renew a water-repellent protector from time to time. Avoid waxes that leave a film.
Pairings
- cream or warm white lacquered cabinet doors
- satin stainless steel and freestanding appliances
- teak or iroko wood floors
FAQ
Are Tropic Brown and Baltic Brown the same granite?
No, they are different materials with a similar appearance: both have rounded brown crystals, but the shade and crystal size differ. It is worth comparing the samples in person.
Is it suitable for a heavily used kitchen worktop?
Yes, it is one of the most practical choices: it resists the heat of pans, scratches and acids, and its dark colour masks small stains.
Which finish should be chosen for outdoors?
For outdoor floors and steps, flamed or brushed finishes are used, which increase grip. Polished should be reserved for vertical or interior surfaces.
