Brown Qussair Granite: the complete guide

Brown Qussair Granite is a brown granite from Egypt, with a warm, deep tone. It is chosen for the robustness typical of granite combined with a colour less cold than the classic greys and blacks.

History and origin

Egypt has one of the oldest traditions in the world in the use of granite, and today exports numerous varieties from its eastern desert areas. The name recalls the town of Quseir, on the Red Sea coast. Brown Qussair is widespread above all in Middle Eastern markets and on the international stone market. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is brown, with darker crystals and light specks that create a granular texture. The pattern is generally uniform, but there may be variations in tone and small concentrations of dark minerals from one block to another. Polished, it takes on an intense, glossy brown; flamed, it becomes lighter and matt.

Recommended uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, floors, stairs, thresholds and façade cladding. In textured finishes it is also used for exteriors and pedestrian paving. The dark colour can make dust and limescale marks visible on polished surfaces, something to bear in mind in bathrooms.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and a neutral detergent, drying with a soft cloth to avoid smears. Apply a water- and oil-repellent protector from time to time, especially on kitchen worktops. Avoid harsh abrasives on the polished finish.

Pairings

  • cream or ivory lacquered cabinet doors
  • teak or iroko
  • copper or burnished bronze taps

FAQ

Is Brown Qussair good for a kitchen?

Yes: it is hard and resists heat and food acids. A stain-proofing treatment helps prevent oil marks.

How does it differ from other brown granites?

Brown granites vary in tone, grain and the presence of light or dark crystals. Brown Qussair has a warm, fairly uniform brown; it is worth comparing it with samples of other browns before deciding.

Can it be installed outdoors?

Yes, it is weather-resistant. For outdoor floors flamed or brushed finishes are preferred, as they are safer when wet.
