Verde Acceglio: the complete guide
Verde Acceglio is a green marble from Piedmont with a dark background crossed by light veins. It is chosen to create intense, refined surfaces with a typically Alpine character.
History and origin
It takes its name from Acceglio, a municipality in the upper Val Maira in the province of Cuneo, an Alpine area where green rocks of ophiolitic origin outcrop. The green marbles of the western Alps have been used for decoration, altars, floors and cladding, especially in Piedmont. Today Verde Acceglio is a niche material, with limited and variable availability. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is dark green, at times almost black, run through with light veins and networks, white or pale green. The pattern varies greatly from slab to slab, with more brecciated areas and more uniform ones. Polishing gives depth to the green and brilliance to the veins, while honing makes it more matt and soft.

FAQ
Is Verde Acceglio a true marble?
In the trade it is classed among marbles, but like many Alpine greens it contains serpentine and other green minerals in addition to calcite. This affects hardness and behaviour, which should be assessed for each lot.
How should it be installed?
Green marbles can warp or stain with high-water-content adhesives. For this reason rapid-setting or reactive adhesives are often used: it is best to follow the advice of an experienced installer.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes, for walls, floors and vanity tops, avoiding acidic limescale-removing products. A stain-proofing protector helps maintain the polish.
