Amêndoa Capixaba Granite: complete guide

Amêndoa Capixaba is an almond-coloured Brazilian granite, light and warm. It is chosen to achieve a bright, soft effect with a hard, resistant stone.

History and origin

"Amêndoa" means almond and "capixaba" denotes something from the state of Espírito Santo, one of Brazil's main ornamental stone hubs. The material is exported mainly in slabs for tops and floors. Beige granites from this area are appreciated as a resistant alternative to light marbles. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The almond-beige background is dotted with white and pinkish crystals and small dark minerals. The grain is medium and the pattern fairly uniform, with variations in the warmth of the colour between lots. Polished, it appears warmer and more contrasted; honed, lighter and more uniform.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, stairs and cladding. Outdoors it is used for thresholds, window sills and paving with a rough finish. Light granites show oil stains more easily if unprotected.

Care and maintenance

Apply a stain-proofing impregnator after installation and renew it periodically, especially in the kitchen. Clean with a neutral detergent and wipe up coloured liquids immediately. Avoid bleach and aggressive products.

Pairings

  • light walnut or honey oak
  • warm white walls and linen fabrics
  • satin brass handles

FAQ

Is it an alternative to beige marble?

Yes, it offers similar tones with much greater hardness and acid resistance, although the pattern is speckled rather than veined.

Does it stain in the kitchen?

Being light, oil and wine can leave marks if not dealt with immediately; a stain-proofing treatment greatly reduces the problem.

Is it suitable for heavy-traffic floors?

Yes, it is highly resistant to wear and also suitable for commercial spaces.
