Arabescato La Mossa: complete guide
Arabescato La Mossa is a white Tuscan marble with interwoven grey veining, typical of the family of Apuan arabescatos. It is chosen for refined interiors, where the veining takes centre stage.
History and origin
It belongs to the arabescato marbles of the Apuan district, in Tuscany, an area that has supplied white and veined marbles to architecture and sculpture for centuries. Arabescatos are valued for their dynamic pattern, which differs from one variety to another. They are used in prestige homes, hotels and commercial spaces. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The white background, sometimes slightly pearly, is crossed by grey veins that branch out in an irregular, lively pattern. The intensity and density of the veining vary greatly between slabs, making visual selection of the material worthwhile. Polished, it looks brilliant and contrasted; honed or brushed, it takes on a softer, more natural look.
Technical properties (indicative)
| Classification | calcitic marble (metamorphic rock) |
|---|---|
| Density | approx. 2,700 kg/m³ (indicative) |
| Mohs hardness | approx. 3 |
| Water absorption | low |

Recommended uses
Ideal for wall cladding, floors, bathrooms, vanity tops, bespoke bathtubs, stairs and furnishing accessories. In the kitchen it requires care with acids; outdoors the polish does not last over time.
Care and maintenance
Use neutral detergents for marble and soft cloths; quickly dry hard water and acidic liquids. A periodic stain-proofing treatment helps, while professional re-polishing can restore dulled surfaces.
Pairings
- matt black taps
- dark walnut
- velvets and sage-green textiles
FAQ
How do I choose between the different arabescatos?
It is best to compare photos of the actual slabs: the difference lies in the density, colour and movement of the veining rather than in the technical properties.
Is it suitable for showers and vanity tops?
Yes, it is widely used in bathrooms; to avoid marks it is advisable to dry off hard water and avoid acidic anti-limescale products.
Polished or honed?
Polished enhances the contrast of the veining; honed hides scratches and signs of wear better, and is often preferred for floors and tops.
