Bianco Tranovaltos: complete guide

Bianco Tranovaltos is a Greek white marble with an understated look, a light background and faint grey clouding. It is a practical choice for floors and cladding over large surfaces.

History and origin

Tranovaltos is a village in the Kozani region of Western Macedonia, an area with numerous quarries of white and grey marbles. The materials from this area are exported to many countries for residential and commercial construction. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

A white or white-grey background with soft clouding and veining, sometimes more evident in certain blocks. The tone can range from a cool white to a slightly greyish white, so it is best to work with consistent batches. Polished, it shows its shading better; honed, it looks more uniform and matt.

FAQ

Is Bianco Tranovaltos suitable for large floors?

Yes, it is often chosen for large surfaces; it is advisable to order the entire quantity from a single batch to ensure consistency of tone.

How does it cope with scratches?

Like all marbles it can scratch; a honed finish makes scratches less visible and can be restored by honing.

Can I use it outdoors?

In mild climates yes, for sheltered cladding or paving, with a brushed or sandblasted finish; in areas with severe frost a granite is better.
