Burlwood Granite: the complete guide

Burlwood Granite is a brown commercial granite with a veined pattern reminiscent of burr wood. It is chosen for statement surfaces that call for visual warmth and the durability of a hard stone.

History and origin

Brazil is among the world's leading producers of granites with lively patterns, often metamorphic in nature and sold under evocative names. Burlwood belongs to this category and is best known on the international kitchen worktop market. Like many stones with wavy patterns, it is sold mainly in slabs. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is brown with veins and undulations in lighter and darker tones, reminiscent of burr wood. The pattern is highly variable: some slabs are denser and darker, others more open and contrasting. Polishing gives depth and brilliance to the movement, while a brushed or leather finish makes it more tactile and matt.

Recommended uses

It is particularly suitable for kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom vanity tops and wall cladding where the pattern can be appreciated. It can also be used for floors, preferably in large formats so as not to break up the veining. It can be used outdoors, but the block and finish must be chosen carefully.

Care and maintenance

Neutral detergent and water for everyday use; avoid bleach and abrasive products. Stones with lively patterns can be more absorbent in some areas, so an impregnating protector is recommended. Repeat the treatment when water no longer forms droplets on the surface.

Pairings

  • American walnut cabinet doors
  • matt black or bronze handles
  • sage green or warm beige walls

FAQ

Is Burlwood really a granite?

Commercially yes; geologically many stones of this type are metamorphic silicate rocks. What matters is that their hardness and durability are comparable to granites.

Can I choose the slabs for my worktop?

It is advisable: the pattern varies a great deal. We send photos of the available slabs so you can choose the one with the movement you prefer and plan any bookmatching.

Which finish do you recommend for the kitchen?

Polished is the easiest to clean and shows off the pattern; leather is more matt and hides fingerprints and small marks better.
