Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble: guide
Calacatta Macchia Vecchia is a Carrara Calacatta with a pattern of large grey and golden patches on a warm white background. A rare material with a classic, precious feel.
History and origin
The name comes from the tradition of Apuan quarrymen, who distinguish Calacatta varieties by the pattern of the bed: "macchia" (patch) refers to the large areas of colour that characterise this marble. It is quarried in limited quantities in the Carrara basin and is one of Marmi di Carrara's exclusive materials.
Look and veining
An ivory white background with large grey patches and veins, often with golden or hazel shades. The pattern is irregular and painterly, different from slab to slab: a marble to be chosen and composed, ideal where a unique piece is wanted.
