Danby Royal: complete guide
Danby Royal is a white American marble with well-distributed grey veining. It is chosen as an American alternative to the classic veined whites, for bathrooms, floors and cladding.
History and origin
It comes from Vermont, a state with a long tradition of marble quarrying in the United States, and belongs to the Danby family of marbles. It is found mainly on the North American market, where it is appreciated in residential and commercial projects. In Europe it is less common and is imported on request. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is white, sometimes with slightly warm hues, and the grey veins are linear or cloudy depending on the cut. The pattern can vary from subtle to more pronounced between slabs. A polished finish gives depth to the veining; honed and brushed finishes give a more natural, less reflective effect.

Recommended uses
Suitable for floors, cladding, bathrooms, stairs and vanity tops. In the kitchen it can be used if you accept the patina that forms with use; otherwise a material more resistant to acids is better. For exteriors it is assessed case by case with non-slip finishes.
Care and maintenance
Clean daily with a neutral detergent and wipe up spills. Treat the surface with a stain-proofing protector, to be renewed periodically. Avoid acidic and abrasive products.
Pairings
- Satin brass and matt black taps
- Ash or light oak
- Sage-green tiles or walls
FAQ
Is it similar to Carrara?
The overall effect, white with grey veining, is similar; what differs is the origin and the character of the pattern. Those wanting a classic look can assess both on the actual slabs.
Is it suitable for a kitchen worktop?
It can be used, but like all marbles it is sensitive to acids and can stain. With a good treatment and daily care it lasts a long time, developing a patina of use.
Which finishes are available?
Generally polished, honed and brushed; availability depends on the slabs in stock at the time of ordering.
