Didyma: complete guide
Didyma is a Turkish marble with a white-grey background and grey veins. It offers a classic, understated look, suited to large surfaces and elegant interiors.
History and origin
It is a marble of Turkish origin whose name recalls ancient Didyma, on the Aegean coast. It is distributed on the international market in slabs and tiles for floors and cladding. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is white or white-grey, with grey veins of varying intensity, sometimes dense and parallel. Pattern and tone change between slabs and batches, with lighter and darker areas alternating. Polished, it shows sharp contrasts; honed, a more uniform, contemporary effect.

Recommended uses
Suitable for interior floors, cladding, bathrooms, stairs and thresholds. The more heavily veined slabs lend themselves to walls with a book-matched pattern. For exteriors and kitchen worktops more resistant materials are preferable.
Care and maintenance
Clean with neutral detergents and dry wet surfaces. Avoid acidic products, bleach and abrasive sponges. Protect with an impregnating sealer and renew it periodically.
Pairings
- elm or natural oak
- satin steel taps
- chalk white walls
FAQ

Can I use it in a shower?
Yes, for cladding and shower trays, with a honed or brushed finish and neutral detergents.
What is the difference between polished and honed?
Polished reflects light and highlights the veins, but shows scratches and marks more; honed is matt, soft to the touch and more practical.
