Gebharts Granite: complete guide

Gebharts granite is a compact Austrian grey granite with a uniform structure. It is chosen for durable building work and for interiors with a cool, clean tone.

History and origin

It comes from Austria, a country with an established granite quarrying tradition, particularly in its northern regions. Austrian granites are used for paving, stairs, cladding and memorials. Gebharts is known mainly on the Central European market. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is light-to-medium grey, sometimes with cool glints, with a medium, regular grain. Dark mica creates dense, widespread speckling. Differences between slabs are moderate; polishing makes the tone more intense and glassy.

Recommended uses

Recommended for busy floors, stairs, thresholds, exterior cladding, street furniture and kitchen worktops. It tolerates frost and de-icing salt well if correctly installed. For memorial work it lends itself to engraving and polishing.

Care and maintenance

Neutral detergents for daily cleaning; avoid wax-based products that leave a film. A water repellent improves stain resistance outdoors.

FAQ

Does it resist de-icing salt?

Compact granites like this withstand it well; performance also depends on installation, falls and maintenance.

What does it look like in a modern kitchen?

The cool grey pairs well with light lacquers and steel. A honed finish gives a more contemporary effect than polished.

Is it used for headstones and monuments?

Yes, Austrian grey granites are traditionally also used in memorial work.
