Luz de Compostela Granite: the complete guide

Luz de Compostela Granite is a grey Galician granite with a regular grain and a bright tone. It is a practical choice for floors, façades and street furniture where a neutral, durable stone is needed.

History and origin

Galicia, in north-western Spain, is one of Europe's main granite quarrying areas, and its stone has been used for centuries in local architecture, starting with Santiago de Compostela itself. The name of the material recalls precisely this tradition. Today Galician granites are exported all over the world in slabs, tiles and fabricated pieces. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is grey, with light feldspar and quartz crystals dotted with dark mica. The pattern is uniform and repeatable, with modest differences between lots. Polished, it appears darker and more contrasted; flamed and bush-hammered, it becomes light grey, almost silvery.
