Granito Giallo California
Guide

Giallo California Granite: the complete guide

Giallo California Granite is a medium-grained igneous stone in warm yellow and beige tones, speckled with grey and black crystals. It is chosen when you need the robustness of a granite without giving up a bright, welcoming shade.

History and origin

It is an imported granite widely available on the international market under the trade name Giallo California, which refers to its golden colour rather than a precise origin. Like many yellow granites, it generally owes its warm hue to a slight natural oxidation of the iron-bearing minerals. For years it has been used for kitchen worktops, floors and cladding as an alternative to grey granites. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is straw yellow with more beige areas, crossed by a dense granulation of grey quartz and black micas. The pattern is regular and has little directionality, so slabs are easy to match, although the tone may vary slightly from one block to another. Polishing brightens the yellow and the contrasts, while flaming and brushing make it lighter and matt.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, work surfaces, floors including heavy-traffic ones, stairs and thresholds. Outdoors, with a flamed or bush-hammered finish, it works for paving, steps and façade cladding. The only thing to consider is the effect of its warm tone next to furnishings that are already very yellow or orange.

Care and maintenance

For daily cleaning, water and a neutral detergent are enough. An oil- and water-repellent stain-proofing treatment, renewed periodically, limits the absorption of oil and wine on kitchen worktops. Avoid abrasive pastes, which can dull the polish.

Pairings

  • natural oak or light walnut cabinet doors
  • brushed brass handles and taps
  • sand or sage green walls

FAQ

Is Giallo California suitable for a kitchen worktop?

Yes: being a granite, it resists scratches, heat and food acids. A stain-proofing treatment is nonetheless recommended, because the grain can absorb oils if left for a long time.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, it is frost-resistant. For outdoor floors and stairs, a flamed or bush-hammered finish is advisable, as it makes the surface slip-resistant.

Is the colour the same in all slabs?

The pattern is homogeneous, but the shade can range between yellow and beige depending on the block. For large projects it is best to choose slabs from the same batch.

How do I order it?

Giallo California is ordered on request: send dimensions, thicknesses and the finish you want and you will receive a quote and photos of the available slabs before confirming.
