Korpi Black Granite: the complete guide

Korpi Black Granite is a black commercial granite with a deep tone and an essential look. It is chosen for elegant, durable surfaces, from the kitchen to funerary art.

History and origin

Black granites are among the most sought-after stones for worktops, floors and memorials, thanks to their intense colour and ability to take a polish. Many commercial "black granites" are in fact gabbros or diorites, very compact dark igneous rocks. Korpi Black is an imported material in this category, with characteristics that depend on the batch. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is black, with a fine or medium grain and possible small lighter crystals or glints. Differences between blocks concern mainly the presence of light specks and the intensity of the black. Polishing gives a deep, mirror-like black; leather and flamed finishes make it dark grey and matt.

Recommended uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, stairs, cladding, memorials and headstones. It also performs well outdoors. On the polished finish, fingerprints and limescale marks are more visible than on light stones.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent and dry with a microfibre cloth to avoid smears. Do not use waxes or products that leave dull residues. Beware of "dyed" blacks: if a cloth with solvent picks up colour, the stone has been treated with dyes.

Pairings

  • light maple or ash wood
  • matt white cabinet doors
  • stainless steel and polished brass

FAQ

Is Korpi Black suitable for a kitchen worktop?

Yes, it is very compact and barely absorbent. The leather finish is a good choice if you want to hide fingerprints and smears.

How can you tell a dyed black granite?

By rubbing a cloth soaked in acetone on a hidden area: if it turns black, the stone has been treated with dyes. A natural black does not release colour.

Is it good for memorials?

Yes, black granites take a mirror polish and allow very legible engravings and photo-ceramic portraits.
