Neuhaus Granite: complete guide

Neuhaus granite is a grey Bavarian granite with a sober appearance. It is chosen for outdoor work and for projects that require a solid, traditional stone.

History and origin

It belongs to the granites of eastern Bavaria, a region with a long history of quarries and stoneworking workshops. These materials are used in Germany for urban paving, kerbing, walls, monuments and cladding. Neuhaus granite is uncommon in Italy and is sourced through import. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The grey background is made up of light and dark crystals in a medium grain, with a uniform appearance. Variations between blocks concern mainly the shade, lighter or more bluish. Rough finishes lighten it and emphasise its rustic nature; honing makes it darker.

Recommended uses

Suitable for pedestrian and vehicular paving, kerbs, steps, dry-stone walls, fountains and façade cladding. Indoors it is used for floors and stairs with an essential style. Polished surfaces are not recommended for outdoor floors because of the risk of slipping.

Care and maintenance

Clean periodically with water and a brush; for oil stains use specific absorbent poultices. A water-repellent treatment is useful in shaded areas. Avoid strong acids that can alter the surface.

Pairings

  • untreated larch
  • light gravel and pebbles
  • anthracite-painted steel railings
