History and origin

Oppdal, in central Norway, is a town associated with the quarrying of schistose quartzite, traditionally used for roofs, floors and walls. The stone has a long history of use in Scandinavian architecture and is exported to several European countries. Today it is offered for both outdoor and natural-style indoor settings. Look and veining

The background is grey with more or less pronounced green tones and slight micaceous glints. The cleft surface shows undulations and small differences in tone from slab to slab. As well as the natural cleft face, it can be supplied with honed or brushed surfaces, which make the colour more uniform and darker.

Recommended uses

Suitable for outdoor and indoor floors, stairs, wall cladding, window sills and roofing. Its natural surface makes it safe in showers and bathrooms. For kitchen worktops it is preferable to consider other stones, except for honed versions to be assessed case by case.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and neutral detergents; outdoors, periodic brushing is enough. A water-repellent treatment reduces moss growth in shaded areas.
