Trentino Porphyry is a hard, compact volcanic rock, in colours ranging from grey to purple, red and brown. It is chosen for outdoor paving that resists frost, traffic and time.
History and origin
It is quarried in Trentino and has long been the reference stone for squares, streets and courtyards, in Italy and abroad. Its natural cleavage into slabs makes it possible to obtain split-face surfaces without complex fabrication. It is supplied as setts, random-length slabs, tiles and special pieces such as kerbs and steps. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The colour is variable and often mixed within the same supply, with grey, purple, reddish and rust tones. The natural cleft surface is slightly irregular, while sawn and flamed or honed finishes are more uniform. It is precisely this mix of shades that gives porphyry paving its characteristic appearance.
