Vesanto Red Granite: complete guide

History and origin

The material takes its name from Vesanto, a town in central Finland, a country with a long tradition of quarrying red and brown granites. Finnish granites are known for their compactness and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles. Vesanto Red is now available on the international market as blocks and slabs. Look and veining

The background is red tending towards orange, with well-defined feldspar crystals and black and grey speckles. The structure is homogeneous but, as with all medium- to coarse-grained granites, small variations in tone can be seen between one block and another. A polished finish gives a saturated, brilliant red; flamed or brushed finishes make it softer and more textured.

Recommended uses

It is well suited to façades, thresholds, window sills, steps and outdoor paving, as well as kitchen and bathroom worktops. Its frost resistance makes it suitable for cold climates and mountain areas. In very bright, minimalist interiors it can be used for details such as skirting or tops rather than large surfaces.

Care and maintenance

Clean with pH-neutral products and a soft cloth. On kitchen worktops a stain-proofing protector is useful, especially on non-polished finishes. Outdoors, periodic washing with water is enough to remove deposits and smog.
