Paul Klee Quartzite: the complete guide

Paul Klee Quartzite is a multicoloured Brazilian quartzite, with fields of light blue, blue and grey reminiscent of an abstract canvas. It is chosen as a statement piece for worktops, walls and premium furnishings.

History and origin

Brazil is the main country of origin for exotic quartzites in intense colours, much in demand in recent years for designer kitchens and bathrooms. The trade name pays homage to the painter Paul Klee, for the painterly effect of the slabs. It is a material of limited production, available in lots. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background alternates light blue, deep blue and grey areas, with light veins and bands running across the slab. Every slab is different and even within the same block the pattern changes considerably, so it is almost always chosen by sight. Polishing enhances the brilliance of the colours; honed and brushed finishes give a more textured effect.

FAQ

Is it really a quartzite?

It is sold as a quartzite; since some «quartzites» on the market are actually dolomitic marbles, it is advisable to check each lot with the scratch and acid tests. A true quartzite scratches glass and does not react to acids.

Can I use it for a kitchen worktop?

Yes, if it is a true quartzite it is highly resistant to scratches and food acids; an impregnating treatment is nonetheless recommended.

Can it be bookmatched?

Yes, with consecutive slabs from the same block very striking mirror-image compositions can be obtained, ideal for walls and islands.
