Topazio Imperiale Quartzite: the complete guide
Topazio Imperiale Quartzite is a stone in golden and amber tones, crossed by brown veins. It is chosen for premium worktops and surfaces where a warm, bright effect with good durability is wanted.
History and origin
It is an imported material offered on the international market among the exotic quartzites in warm colours. Quartzites derive from the metamorphic transformation of quartz-rich sands, and golden colourings are usually due to the presence of iron oxides. As with all stones in this segment, availability varies depending on the blocks quarried. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background ranges from honey to amber, with lighter areas and brown or rust veins that develop irregularly. Colour and pattern change considerably from one block to another, so choosing the slabs is essential, especially for bookmatched worktops. Polishing enhances the brilliance of the crystals, while a leather or brushed finish gives a more matt, tactile surface.
Technical properties (indicative)
| Classification | quartzite (nature to be checked on the lot) |
|---|---|
| Bulk density | approx. 2,600 kg/m³ (indicative) |
| Mohs hardness | approx. 7 |
| Water absorption | low |
| Main use | interiors and exteriors |
| Acid resistance | good, if a true quartzite |
Recommended uses
It is suitable for kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom vanity tops, cladding and premium furniture. Before use in the kitchen it is advisable to check with a scratch and acid test that the lot is a true quartzite and not a dolomitic marble.
Care and maintenance
It is cleaned with neutral detergents; quartzites are unaffected by food acids, but can absorb oils in the more porous areas. A stain-proofing product applied after installation and renewed periodically keeps the worktop in good condition.
Pairings
- American walnut
- bronzed metals or burnished brass
- cream or olive green lacquered cabinet doors
FAQ
Is it more durable than marble?
A true quartzite is much harder than marble and does not lose its sheen on contact with lemon or vinegar. Some stones sold as quartzites are, however, dolomitic marbles: that is why we always recommend checking the lot.
Can it be used for a kitchen worktop?
Yes, it is one of its most suitable uses. Thanks to its hardness it stands up well to scratches and heat, but it is still best to use chopping boards and trivets.
Can it be backlit?
Some light quartzites let light through if cut in reduced thicknesses, but this is not a guaranteed feature: it must be checked on a sample of the specific lot.
How do I order it?
