Rosa Portogallo
Guide

Rosa Portogallo: the complete guide

Rosa Portogallo is a Portuguese crystalline marble with a soft pink background and light red-brown and grey veins. It is chosen for bathrooms, floors and cladding with a warm, refined character.

History and origin

Portugal is an important producer of marble, particularly in the Alentejo region, home of the best-known pink marbles. These materials have been used for centuries in Portuguese architecture, in palaces, churches and fountains. Today Rosa Portogallo is exported worldwide for residential and commercial interiors. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is light pink, sometimes with cream or salmon hues, crossed by thin red-brown, grey or greenish veins. The distribution of the veins and the intensity of the pink vary from slab to slab. Polished, it shows a beautiful crystalline translucency; honed and tumbled finishes give a softer look.

FAQ

Is Rosa Portogallo suitable for a bathroom?

Yes, it is a classic for bathroom floors and cladding. It should be cleaned with neutral products and protected with a stain-proofer.

How does it differ from Perlino Rosato?

Rosa Portogallo is a crystalline marble with veining and a certain translucency; Perlino Rosato is a fine-grained, speckled limestone, more uniform and opaque.

Can it be used outdoors?

In mild climates yes, for cladding and thresholds. In areas with hard frosts and smog, granites or more resistant stones are preferable.
