Rosso Numidia: the complete guide

History and origin

The name recalls Numidia, the ancient region of North Africa famous in Roman times for its coloured marbles. It is, however, a trade name that does not reliably indicate the current origin of the material. Red marbles have always been used for inlays, columns, fireplaces and prestigious cladding. Look and veining

The background is dark red, from cherry to burgundy, with pinkish, white or grey veins and patches. The amount of veining changes greatly between slabs: some are more uniform, others more brecciated. Polishing intensifies the red; honed, it looks more matt and warm.

Recommended uses

Ideal for wall cladding, fireplaces, bathroom vanity tops, tables, shelves and floor inlays. On large surfaces it creates highly characterful rooms, so it is often preferred as an accent alongside neutral marbles. Not recommended for exteriors or kitchens.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent and dry, especially on bathroom tops. The stain-proofing impregnator should be applied after installation and renewed periodically. Avoid limescale removers and acidic products, which leave light marks that are very visible on red.
