Samaha: the complete guide

Samaha is a creamy beige Egyptian marble, with golden veins and a warm, bright appearance. It is chosen for elegant indoor floors and cladding, with a good balance between looks and cost.

History and origin

Egypt has long been among the leading exporters of beige and cream limestones sold as marbles, such as Galala and Sunny. Samaha belongs to this family of warm, bright materials, widely used in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. It is offered in slabs, tiles and made-to-measure pieces. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The cream-beige background is run through with more or less marked golden or hazel veins and shadings. Small fossils or spots typical of limestones may appear, with variations between slabs. Polished, it is warm and glossy; honed or antiqued, it takes on a more natural, softer look.

FAQ

Is Samaha a marble or a limestone?

It is sold as marble, but geologically it is a compact, polishable limestone: it therefore has the same sensitivity to acids as calcitic marbles.

How does it differ from Galala?

Both are cream-coloured Egyptian limestones; the background tone and the presence of veining differ, and should be compared on a sample before choosing.

Can it be used outdoors?

In mild climates for sheltered cladding, yes; in frost-prone areas or for outdoor floors a more compact stone is preferable.
